Other Isopods
What to look for
Just like yours, but the wrong colour or body shape.
Why and how they turn up
These can come in with untreated substrate, bark, wood, or leaves. You can also get escapees from other enclosures if your security isn't good enough.
Danger level
Left unchecked they may outcompete your isopods. If they are a different morph of the same species they can interbreed and cause you to no longer have a pure morph.
Prevention
Freezing wood, leaves, and substrate can minimise the risk of wild isopods however the only way to 100% prevent them is to never use anything natural in your enclosure which isn't a viable option.
For escapees, ensure there are no vents big enough for them to escape through, bear in mind they can climb many surfaces surprisingly well so height alone isn't a sufficient deterrent. The smallest sizes of mancae in some species can be notorious for climbing far higher than you might expect.
How to treat them
Catch and either release or return them to where they're supposed to be.
